Rockstar White Review + Smile Smile Giveaway!

Once upon a time, I was an anemic little seven-year-old, and the doctor ordered a daily spoonful of iron tonic to help matters along. As the universe, in its infinite wisdom and its cruel sense of humor would have it, the tonic stained my teeth an unsightly, splotchy brown, which reduced me from a giggly little kid to a self-conscious, giggly little kid who spoke, smiled and laughed with her hand covering her mouth. A few years later, the splotches were gone, but the self-doubt remained. Cut to 2010: like many brides-to-be, I wanted to flash a dazzling smile for the camera, and dove head-first into an out-patient whitening regimen that left me underwhelmed, and with a much lighter wallet (seriously, I could have had hired a videographer for what I paid that dentist.)

Well, not too long ago, I was offered the chance to review Rockstar White, an in-home teeth whitening system that supposedly affords you all the benefits of a professional whitening session, right in the comfort of your own home. I have tried home whitening kits in the past, and right off the bat, the one thing that sets Rockstar White apart from the others is the fact that you get your own custom-fitted dental tray, like you would at the dentist. No more messy plastic strips that peel off and make you drool awkwardly all over your chin (ugh.) The kit comes with a sort of translucent putty that you bite into, to create the dental molds, which I thought was quite a clever innovation. You squeeze a small amount of the whitening gel into the molded trays, put them on for about an hour, and you're done. The simplicity of the whole procedure is only the beginning of what I loved about this product. Here's the good:

* The custom trays did not budge like strips tend to do. They stayed put very snugly for the entire hour.
* I had ZERO dental sensitivity. I emphasize this only because my teeth are generally very sensitive. Enough that I use Sensodyne Pronamel everyday, and my whitening session at the dentist's office as well as other in-home systems (Rembrandt is one I can think of off the top of my head) left me with mind-blowingly painful zings for over a week afterwards.
* It comes with an ointment for sensitivity, should it occur.
* The gel is supposed to last a whopping 27 separate applications. I can't vouch as to the accuracy of this, since I haven't used it that many times yet, but even at a hypothetical 20 applications, it's a steal for the price.
* Speaking of which, the price, compared to what I got for almost ten times the money at the dentist's office, is amazing.
* It works. I saw significant and noticeable change within 4 hours of my first application. And that impresses me.

And now, the not-so-great:

* On me, the whitening effects were most apparent after the first three sessions. After that, it sort of starts to plateau out. Now I will only be using the product a couple of times a week, for maintenance, rather than for actual shade correction.
* For about an hour after each application, I saw splotchy, white discolorations on some of my teeth that caused me to panic. These discolorations mysteriously disappeared without a trace, leaving behind only white teeth, in an hour's time. But this means you cannot use this product last-minute, like in the car, on your way to an important meeting or a date.

So there's my review of Rockstar White. Overall, I'm very impressed, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. And now comes the good part: The generous folks at Rockstar White have graciously offered to give away a kit to one lucky LGBC reader. And and and...there's more! In addition to the whitening kit, the winner of this giveaway will also receive these beautiful Anthropologie Sea Drops Earrings, c/o Me!
